Recently, the list of Guangdong’s 2026 Good Teenagers of the New Era was released. Huang Ziyu, a 15‑year‑old student from Songshan Lake North District School, is on the list. Ziyu exemplifies the holistic development philosophy of "five types of educationfor teenagers in the new era through consistent training and academic pursuit. He also serves as a prime example of Songshan Lake’s efforts to integrate physical education with academic learning.
Ziyu first took to swimming pools at the age of six and joined the municipal training team at ten. In 2023, the 12‑year‑old made his debut at the 16th Guangdong Provincial Games, sweeping four gold medals in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly stroke and relay events for his age group. He became the only swimming quadruple gold medalist in the history of Dongguan’s delegation to the Provincial Games. In 2024, Ziyu was selected for training with the Guangdong provincial team to polish his techniques under a higher‑level training system.
To date, Ziyu has won more than 100 championships in national, provincial and municipal events, and holds multiple records for national youth and middle‑school swimming competitions.
High‑intensity training takes up much of his study time. To cope with this challenge, he makes good use of fragmented time for efficient learning. He consistently ranked first in his grade throughout primary school. After entering junior high school, even though he attends academic classes for only half a day each day, he still ranks among the top students in his grade in academic assessments.
For years, Songshan Lake has adhered to the principle of fostering virtue through holistic educationand furthered the integration of physical education and school learning. A complete education system covering mechanisms, curricula, teaching staff and competitions has taken shape.
Songshan Lake incorporates physical education as a core indicator of local education development. Through policy guidance, resource support and evaluation reform, it motivates schools to shift their focus from test scores to well‑rounded personal development. In addition, local schools are encouraged to build diversified physical education systems based on their own strengths. Songshan Lake also actively connects students with competitions at all levels.
At present, Ziyu is in full‑speed preparation for the National Games. Songshan Lake will continue to deepen its practices in integrating physical education with academic learning, nurturing more well‑rounded young talents for the new era.
