On September 15, ShanghaiRanking, a specialised higher-education evaluation institution, officially released the 2026 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). Two higher-education institutions located in Songshan Lake, Dongguan City—Great Bay University and Dongguan University of Technology—have secured places on this year’s ranking.
The 2026 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects covers 57 subjects across five major fields: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciencesand social sciences. GRAS assesses more than 3,000 universities worldwide, and the final ranking features nearly 20,000 disciplinary programmes from over 2,000 universities in 96 countries and regions.
Mainland Chinese universities have kept making strides this year, claiming the world’s No.1 position in 22 subjects. Their total number of subject entries has surpassed the 4,000-mark for the first time, reaching 4,077, with 394 mainland Chinese universities making the list. Notably, mainland Chinese universities have attained the world top spot for the first time in two subjects: Chemistry and Oceanography.

Universities in Guangdong Province also delivered an outstanding performance. In the 2026 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, 381 subjects from 30 Guangdong-based universities are featured, placing Guangdong third nationwide by the number of ranked subjects.
Of the two Dongguan universities on the list, Dongguan University of Technology has 9 ranked subjects, while Great Bay University has one subject selected.

As local higher-education institutions in Songshan Lake, the two universities closely align with the development needs of advanced manufacturing in Songshan Lake.
